 Amber Heard sells California house after losing case

Amber Heard has sold her California home after dropping the multimillion-dollar defamation case against her ex-husband Johnny Depp, according to reports.

The Aquaman star, 36, is said to have made $500,000 income by selling the $1.05 million (£820,000) house in Yucca Valley. Heard allegedly offered it in 2019 through an anonymous trust.

TMZ reported Heard had offered the property pre-pandemic and since then values have shot up in the enclave.

The news website stated it had spoken to the new owner who said he had dealt with the actress’s agents on the deal as a substitute than her directly.

Depp, 59, sued Heard for libel over a December 2018 article she wrote in the Washington Post, which his lawyers said implied he abused her while they have been together.

A jury ruled that Depp was defamed by the op-ed even even though it never mentioned his name. He was awarded $10.35million (£8.4 million) in damages.

Heard gained on one count of her counter-suit, successfully arguing that Depp’s press agent defamed her by claiming her allegations have been “an abuse hoax” aimed at capitalising on the #MeToo movement. The jury awarded her $2 million (£1.6 million).

Meanwhile, unsealed court documents reportedly show Heard walked away from a divorce payout from Depp that should have run to $16 million (£13 million). The Daily Beast said it had seen documents suggesting she neglected guidance from her legal team to pursue Depp for the most cash after they filed for divorce in 2016.

She is said to have been entitled to half of the $33 million (£27 million) he made filming the fifth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, considering that it was “community property” made while they were married.

Depp filed a note of appeal, one day after Heard filed her own against the jury’s verdict following the six-week trial.
