A life full of giving for Angelina Jolie during her 20-year work at the United Nations

After 20 years of giving, Angelina Jolie has released a statement about leaving her position as Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) so she can help more directly with the displaced and local humanitarian groups.

As for Angelina, she shared, on her official page on Instagram, a picture of her with a young child during her work as a United Nations envoy and wrote what it means: “After 20 years of working within the United Nations system, I feel that the time has come for me to work differently, and to engage directly with refugees and organizations.” and support their advocacy for solutions.

“I will continue to do everything I can in the coming years to support refugees and other displaced people,” she said

Over the past two decades, the Oscar-winning Angelina has visited 60 field locations, including in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, bringing with her the Hollywood spotlight and media coverage to highlight areas that are often overlooked.

The United Nations said on Friday that Angelina Jolie will give up her role as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), but will remain active in the humanitarian field and continue to work with refugees outside the organization.

Jolie has been the UNHCR Special Envoy since 2012.

This year, she visited Yemen and Ukraine to meet the displaced. UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, thanked her for her service and commitment and the difference she has made to refugees and people forced to flee.

"After a long and successful term with UNHCR, I appreciate their willingness to change their involvement and support their decision," Grandi said. "I know that the refugee issue will remain close to her heart, and I am sure that it will bring the same passion and concern to a broader humanitarian file."

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, believes that never before have so many people been forced from their homes by violence, conflict and persecution. It is estimated, according to Reuters, that there are more than 100 million people currently displaced around the world.
