The launch of the Toyota Yaris Ativ 2023, the practical option of a small hatchback

The fourth generation Toyota Yaris is available in a number of body shapes to meet the needs of all markets. There's the three- or five-door hatchback, the more confident Yaris Cross chassis and the higher-margin chassis, like the crossovers, and some markets have earned a high-performance class from Gazzo Racing GR. It is also available under the name Mazda 2, within the framework of cooperation between Japanese manufacturers and the exchange of a number of products, and now, Toyota offers the very small saloon class, starting from Thailand.

Known as the Yaris Ativ, the saloon is an attractive alternative to the ultra-compact compact car with generous amenities at an affordable price, ranging from $15,300 to $19,500 depending on trim level. Even the base Sport trim includes good equipment such as 16-inch light-alloy wheels, LED headlights, an infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen and a push-button start. If the customer chooses the Smart trim, the infotainment screen measures nine inches, a camera lens to document the trip, and several points of the universal USB serial port in the rear seat, useful for charging smartphones and other small personal electronic devices.

Next comes the Premium trim level, and here the Yaris Ativ gets automatic air conditioning, rear seat air vents and adaptive cruise control. And finally, the highest-equipped Premium Luxury level, which includes a Pioneer audio system. Toyota doesn't skimp on safety features, as the Yaris Ativ is equipped with collision warning, lane departure warning and front-of-the-vehicle alert systems, and the safety and security package is added to the higher-equipment levels.

In addition, the infotainment system supports the ability to pair smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the highest-equipped category gets a dim lighting system with 64 colors. The seats are upholstered in a fabric upholstery as standard, but can be upgraded to a faux or natural leather upholstery. In addition, there are various exterior upgrades, including trim stripes and two options for the rear spoiler.

More Toyota news:

The Yaris Atif is clearly not designed to set a record for the fastest sedan around the Nürburgring. The car is powered by a 1.2-liter in-line four-cylinder engine that produces 94 hp at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 110 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The engine is connected to a CVT gearbox. There is a sport mode option, the brakes are soft on all wheels, the suspension is expected to be standard, with MacPherson struts at the front and an anti-roll bar at the rear.

In an industry now dominated by four-wheel drive and multi-faceted vehicles, the Toyota Yaris Atif opens the door to a breath of fresh air for compact saloon cars, and will be a strong competitor to the Dacia Logan in the European market. The Yaris Atif will be manufactured at the Toyota Gateway plant, from where it will be exported to more than 35 countries.
